Detrans Awareness Day
A detrans awareness day event was help in Sacremento, California on the 10th of March, 2023
The official Detrans Awareness Day was held on March 12th, 2023, but multiple events were held on different dates around the country in different places. I was able to attend the Sacremento event on the 10th.
#detransawarenessday was trending on twitter for several day before and after the event. Genspect, a highly helpful gender critical group, held a webinar on the 12th wherein many different detransitioners answered questions and spoke for the audience. Many detransitioners and gender critical people used the hashtag to spread awareness.
I arrived in Sacremento on March 9th where I was picked up by Chloe Cole! Chloe and someone else drove me to the location where we were staying, which was kept a secret even from me for the purpose of safety. At the location, I was able to meet up with the other detransitioners who were going to speak with me at the Capital.
With me was Chloe, Luka Hein, Abel Garcia, and several other detransitioners I had only otherwise met online! They travelled from all over the country to meet in Sacremento for this important day.
We spent the evening together talking and bonding. It was a important time where all of the detransitioners got to be together and hold a space to share common thoughts and feelings.
The Event
The day of the event, we went to the capital. There were lots of police. Some were on horses.
The police were there to create safety and make a physical barricade to keep us safe from protesters who were against the bill, mostly trans-identified people.
Among the police, a number of gender critical people showed up to support the detransitioners and listen to us speak. There were men and women of all kinds, many with cameras, signs, and shirts with supportive messages.
I spoke to many of them, some of whom knew who I was. People thanked us for helping to save their children, and it was an awe inspiring experience.
Only one protestor broke through the crowd and police. A trans-identified male who screamed “Lies! Lies! Liars! You’re lying!” It was disruptive, but he was removed quickly.
Speeches
All of the detransitioners gave a speech, most without a script. I did not write anything in advance like I usually do, but spoke form my heart.
Chloe spoke first. She did a wonderful job laying out her story and the issues with “gender affirming care.”
You can view a recording of her speech here.
Luka Hein also gave an incredible speech. She talked about the magic and innocence of children, with whom she works with closely. She is wise beyond her years.

I was very nervous during my speech, but I spoke about the harms of my own care and my empathy for people suffering with gender dysphoria. I feel sorrow for them, and believe that they deserve a better standard of care.
I do not have a recording of my speech.
Other, new detransitioners, including Layla Jane, a very young girl who received her double mastectomy at 13 years old. She gave a short but heart felt speech. Layla now has a lawsuit.

At the end of the speaking period, we all went up and waved the large flag behind us and danced. Myself and two other detransitioners had to stop early due to physical pain.
The Protesters
Thankfully, the capital police did a wonderful job keeping the detransitioners and gender critical crowd safe.
However, things were loud and the people were aggressive across the street, and it wasn't a day without incident.
Reporters were assaulted, including one who reported the attack on Twitter.
